STATEMENT ON ETHICS REFORMS MOVING THROUGH RULES COMMITTEE

LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles City Council Rules Committee moved forward Councilmember Ryu’s campaign finance reform recommendations and a report by the Ethics Commission today. The recommendations and ethics report, which include a ban on developer donations in the City of Los Angeles, come in response to a motion co-introduced by Councilmember Ryu on January 15, in the first meeting of Council in 2019. Following the committee vote, Councilmember Ryu released the following statement:

“Today was a monumental step forward for campaign finance and ethics reform in the City of Los Angeles, and for building trust and transparency in City Hall,” Councilmember Ryu said. “These reforms have been a long time coming, and I’m thrilled to see my colleagues on the Rules Committee work to ensure they are effective and legally feasible. We need to be taking strong, decisive action that makes clear to all Angelenos that their voices comes first. One step at a time, we are letting the sun shine in City Hall, and putting the people’s voice back into our local government.”
