STATEMENT ON CONCRETE STREETS REPORT

Los Angeles - Today, the Public Works and Gang Reduction Committee advanced a report from the Bureau of Street Services on concrete street repair in the City of Los Angeles. The report includes a preliminary analysis of the 1,184 miles of concrete streets in the City, of which 82 percent are in poor condition, according to the report. The report, which now heads to Council for a final vote, instructs the Bureau, along with the City Administrative Officer, to report to Council with a work plan and funding estimates for concrete streets needing small, medium, and large-scale repair.

“Fixing our concrete streets has been a priority of mine since I entered office. Today, after decades of neglect, our City’s concrete streets are one step closer to the repair plan they deserve,” Councilmember Ryu said. “Despite budget limitations, I have long believed that we can find a way to fix our concrete streets in a timely and cost-effective way. Just a few weeks ago, we began targeted concrete street repair in Hancock Park, and with this report, I look forward to many more.”
