Hollywood Bowl Street Closure Pilot to Continue Through 2018

The successful pilot will continue for tonight’s Ms. Lauryn Hill concert

Los Angeles - Today, the Hollywood Bowl announced it would continue street closures of Camrose Drive and Milner Road off Highland Avenue during large show nights through the remainder of the year, after a successful road closure pilot was initiated in July. The pilot, which was made possible by a Councilmember Ryu motion, ran on July 18th, August 5th, August 9th, and September 10th. It has now been extended to include this evening, September 18th, and run through additional dates of the Hollywood Bowl season and lease events for 2018, including the evenings of September 25th, 26th and 28th, and October 4th, 11th, 13th, 16th, 17th, 20th, 21st, 26th, and 27th.

“A successful pilot like this is only possible when we work together,” said Councilmember Ryu. “I’m so grateful to the Hollywood Bowl, local neighborhood groups, and our other partners for making this possible and putting the neighborhood needs first.”

The pilot, which City Council approved July 5th of this year, was the result of collaboration between the Hollywood Bowl, the Office of Councilmember David Ryu, the Office of County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl, The Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT), and local neighborhood groups. It is enforced by LADOT and paid for by a portion of Councilmember Ryu’s discretionary funds, the Hollywood Bowl and the Hollywood Bowl’s lease event partners, Live Nation-Hewitt Silva.

“We have been listening to feedback from our neighboring community and, in partnership with the offices of County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl, and City Councilmember David Ryu, we are excited to continue the pilot closures as we seek always to improve the Hollywood Bowl experience for both our patrons and our neighbors,” said Laura Connelly, Vice President, Presentations, LA Phil.

The Bowl is owned by the County of Los Angeles and within Los Angeles City Council District Four. It is the home of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, or LA Phil, which operates the venue.

During the closures, all traffic (excluding emergency vehicles) will be restricted in/out of Camrose and Milner at Highland, including residents.  Area residents will be able to enter their neighborhoods from Franklin Ave (or other entry points).  Several alternative entry points into the neighborhoods will be staffed, and signage will be posted indicating that "NO ACCESS TO HIGHLAND AVE, LOCAL ACCESS ONLY". Closures begin approximately 2 hours before the posted show time and end approximately 30 minutes after the show ends.

The working group that conceived of the road closure pilot will continue to meet to study the results of the pilot.
